This is a chess board I started aeons ago. I started life as a single piece of stainless plate. I scratched it all up with a flap wheel, then I cut it apart with a large press. I then tackwelded it back together with the scratches alternating at 90 degrees to each other. It looks sorta cool in the right light. Unfortunately the welding discolored the stainless (as it is want to do) and I can't use any mechanical means to clean it as that would screw up my scratches. I tried to order chemicals to do it through Praxair, but they are too hazardous to ship via UPS so Praxiar wouldn't get them in the quantity I wanted (I would have needed to buy a whole case, but at $50 a bottle...).
